Film or Movie?

There has always been a debate with movies on whether they have deeper meanings, or they are simply entertainment. I believe The Green Mile is a film because there is very important messages/ themes in the movie. Racism and descrimination play a big role in this film, as John Coffey is thrown in prison and eventually executed for a crime he did not commit. Because of his skin color, he was accused of brutal crimes that he did not do. Another theme is don't judge a book by its cover. Tom Hanks finds that the new inmate is nothing like his intimidating stature, rather a very pleasant individual. Taking these messages into account, The Green Mile should definitely be considered a film.

  1. This is an interesting choice. I've read the book but haven't seen the movie, mostly because of criticism surrounding John Coffey and the stereotype he supposedly represents. Maybe I'll have to revisit it.
